Axxess Hospice now enables users to set payers to automatically capture value code 23 and the amount of monthly or prorated patient liability in UB-04 form locators 39-41 for room and board claims. By automating a previously manual process, this enhancement streamlines billing operations and reduces manual entry errors.

To enter the amount of monthly or prorated liability for a patient, navigate to the patient’s chart and click Edit Profile. On the Payer Information tab, navigate to the Room and Board section. Click the edit icon to edit an existing RUG level or click Add RUG Level to add a new level. Enter the patient’s monthly liability in the Patient Liability (Monthly) field.

Select Yes or No from the Prorate field. If the patient’s liability is a fixed monthly rate, select No. If the patient’s liability is prorated based on the number of service days in the billing period, select Yes.

Selecting Yes will establish a daily patient liability amount based on the number of days in the billing period.

When the claim is generated, the Expected amount will be reduced by the patient’s liability amount and accurately reflected in the Room and Board Contract Report, Unbilled AR Report, and Earned Revenue Report.

To automatically enter value code 23 and the patient liability amount in form locators 39-41 on the UB-04, navigate to the Billing Information tab in the desired payer’s setup. In the Room and Board Settings section, select Payer Requires Value Code 23 and click Save.
