Automate Status Code 20 on UB-04


The following functionality is coming soon to Axxess Hospice. Axxess will alert you when this feature is available. Check your messages in Axxess Hospice for important alerts from Axxess.


Axxess Hospice now enables users to set payers to automatically capture status code 20 in UB-04 form locator 17 when required at the time of death. By automating a previously manual process, this enhancement streamlines billing operations and reduces manual entry errors.

Set Payer to Require Status Code 20


To indicate that a primary, secondary or tertiary payer requires status 20 on UB-04 claim forms, navigate to the Billing Information tab in the desired payer’s setup. In the Payer Settings section, select Payer Requires Status Code and click Save.

When Payer Requires Status Code 20 is selected and the claim is generated, the solution will automatically populate code 20 Expired in the Patient Status Code field when the patient is discharged due to death.


Room and Board Payer or Combined Claim Form Requires Status Code 20


To indicate that a room and board payer requires status code 20, navigate to the Billing Information tab in the desired payer’s setup. In the Room and Board Settings section, select Payer Requires Status Code and click Save.

When both Payer Requires Combined Claim Form and Payer Requires Status Code 20 are selected in the Room and Board Settings section and the combined claim is generated, the solution will automatically populate code 20 Expired in the Patient Status Code field when the patient is discharged due to death.
