OASIS-D1

OASIS-D1 assessments must be used for all care periods that use OASIS beginning on or after January 1, 2020.

OASIS-D1 Changes & Features

Two questions have been added in the OASIS-D1 Follow-Up:

  1. M1033 Risk for Hospitalization
  2. M1800 Grooming

23 questions have become optional at specific OASIS-D1 time points. For these questions, clinicians can choose not to submit answers to CMS by selecting the equal sign (=) response option. Although CMS no longer requires responses to these questions, agencies should instruct clinicians on appropriate protocol, as optional items may be helpful for use in QAPI initiatives.

The equal sign (=) option indicates that a question is optional. An answer will not be submitted to CMS with the OASIS submission if the equal sign is selected.

Recertification

To accommodate the five-day window, OASIS-D1 must be used beginning December 27 for episodes that begin on or after January 1. Agencies must enter an artificial M0090 date of 01/01/2020 for episodes on or after December 27 but before January 1. These OASIS assessments will not be submitted until 01/01/2020. If the OASIS is submitted before this date, it will be rejected.
