Check Insurance Eligibility in Patient Charts


The following functionality is coming soon to Axxess Palliative Care. Axxess will alert you when this feature is available. Check your messages in Axxess Palliative Care for important alerts from Axxess.


Axxess Palliative Care now enables users the ability to check commercial insurance eligibility from the patient’s chart. This feature also automatically checks insurance eligibility for scheduled visits before they are completed. By enabling users to view insurance eligibility on the date of service and recognize eligibility concerns, these enhancements streamline operations and improve billing processes.


To view insurance eligibility, users must have permission to view and edit the patient chart in Axxess Palliative Care.

Patient Chart Permission


To give a user permission to view and edit the patient chart, edit the user’s profile and navigate to the Permissions tab. In the Clinical section, select View next to the Patient Chart permission, then select View. Click Save to finish granting the permissions to the user.

Check Commercial Insurance Eligibility


To enable the check insurance eligibility feature, edit the desired patient’s profile and navigate to the Demographics tab.


Patients ➜ Patient Charts ➜ Edit Profile ➜ Demographics


Complete the required fields and select Save.


Continue to the Payer Information tab.


Patients ➜ Patient Charts ➜ Edit Profile ➜ Payer Information ➜ Add Payer


Complete the required fields and select Save.


Once all the required information is entered in the patient’s chart, a green check mark will appear in the Eligibility section of the Payer Information tab. A Check Again button will also appear and enables the user to check insurance eligibility manually every seven days.


Commercial insurance and Medicare Part B eligibility checks will be automatically completed for visits scheduled before 11:59 p.m. on the previous day. Note: An automatic eligibility check will only be completed if it has been 15 days since the previous check. A red X icon will appear on the Tasks section of the Patient Charts screen if there are any insurance eligibility issues. A green check mark will appear if there are no eligibility issues.


On the Patient Schedule screen, a red notification will appear if there is an insurance issue.
